Color-Coding Our Way Through Food Safety Month!

As members of the food service community, we take food safety very seriously, and you should too!

According to the CDC (Center for Disease Control & Prevention), "Every year, an estimated 1 in 6 Americans (or 48 million people) get sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die from eating contaminated food. Some people are more likely to get a food borne illness (also called food poisoning) or to get seriously ill."

So what can be done to prevent the spread of food borne illnesses? Using color-coded utensils is an easy and effective way to visually separate work areas and reduce cross-contamination. Facilities with cross-contact concerns of allergens should particularly consider color-coding to lower that risk.

Vollrath offers a wide variety of color-coded serving utensils that have silver or zinc ions built right into the handles. This design provides a no-nonsense, all-natural antimicrobial solution to help you meet and exceed safety standards for your serving environment. Unlike chemical or man-made antimicrobials which generally interact with only one specific site on a microbe, the natural antimicrobial compound attacks multiple targets on the microbe by obstructing cell respiration, starving the bacteria and preventing cell reproduction.
